Holmen Husky Experience - Dog Sled Tour 2.5 Hour

A Taste of Real Mushing

‍Alta is home to Europe’s longest sled dog race—Finnmarksløpet—and the roots of our family’s mushing journey. Since 1986, we’ve trained, raced, and lived life with Alaskan Huskies above the Arctic Circle.

This 2.5-hour experience is a curated introduction to that world. You’ll mush your own team of dogs along parts of the Finnmarksløpet trail, guided by seasoned mushers and surrounded by stillness, snow, and sky.

Itinerary

Pick-up from the Tourist Information Center in Alta City (must be pre-booked).
Arrive at Holmen Husky where you will receive the necessary clothing for the dog sledding experience.
Safety instructions and introduction on how to handle a team of Alaskan husky race dogs.
Approx. 1-hour dog sledding experience within a raw winter landscape.
You can switch between being the passenger and driver.
Upon arrival back to Holmen Husky you will have the possibility to help us with the dogs, and thank them for the run by giving them lots of cuddles and belly scratches.
The guide will prepare a fire and snacks in the Lavvo and tell you all about life with huskies.
Transfer to the Tourist Information Center in Alta City (must be pre-booked).

What should you bring?

Don’t forget that this is the Arctic and nature here is on steroids. We provide the proper clothing you need for an experience in the rugged landscape, but we recommend that you bring the following items with you to make your adventure even more comfortable. After all, we want you to completely immerse in the experience without having to worry about being unprepared.

Additional Information

Age restrictions:

The minimum age to participate in this experience is 5 years old.
5 - 12-year-old children are required to sit between an adult's legs on the sled.
13 - 15-year-old children are allowed to sit independently on the sled and can drive independently under the supervision of a guide.
The minimum age for driving solo is 16 years old.

Disclaimer:

Alaskan huskies are polar animals and weather conditions, specifically warm temperatures, create situations unsafe for them to run in. Holmen Husky, therefore, reserves the right to cancel trips if the temperatures become unsuitable for our dogs. The weather can be extreme at times in this part of the world and we reserve the right to change an itinerary or cancel a trip if the conditions appear to be unsafe.
