This trip is for the most adventurous of our guests. Those with a strong desire to get away from the comforts of daily life and into nature, in a way that they have never experienced before. We’ll be travelling from mountain cabin to mountain cabin across the vast and beautiful Finnmark Mountain Plateau, with the possibility of the northern lights visiting every night.
You’ll live like a musher, tending to and handling your own team of huskies and travelling about 30-40 kilometres on the sled each day. But mushing is more than the time you spend on the sled. You’ll learn how to harness, feed and care for your own team of huskies – just like any other musher would. Up in the mountains, nature rules and we dance to the sound of its drum, adapting to its changing beats. Just as it should be.
See drop down menus below for more information.
On your first day it’s all about getting to know Holmen, from guides and dogs to facilities. You’ll get to go out and try your hand at the sled shortly after. Get a sense of feeling what it’s like to handle a sled pulled by sled dogs. The day will end with a 3-course dinner and some jacuzzi & sauna.
Transfer from Alta City Centre or Alta Airport to Holmen Husky Lodge (approx. 15-minute drive)
Check in to Tipi or Dome followed by Dog sled tour
On your second day we’ll head for the mountain plateau. Your guides will hand out team and position sheets, so you know who’s in your team. We’ll pack our trailer and head for the mountains where a 30-40 km dog sled tour awaits. The goal of the day is to get to our first cabin where we will enjoy good food, sauna and a warm bed.
On your third day it’s all about enjoying the mountain and mushing. We’ll start our day with some breakfast for both musher and dogs. Take care of your team and make them ready for going to the next cabin. Upon arrival we’ll repeat our new routine, kick back and relax.
On your fourth day we’re headed for the final mountain cabin. By now you’ve learned more about your dogs. Take care of your team and keep enjoying the vast nature of Finnmark.
On your fifth day we’ll head out for our last stretch of dog sledding. Wake up to the comfortable feeling of knowing exactly what to do in order to get yourself from A to B with your team of huskies. At the end of the day we’ll be back at the lodge where food and comfy facilities awaits.
On your sixth and final day it’s all about farewells to bout dogs and fellow mushers. By now you’ll be able to get on your plane with a grand story about life in the Arctic with sled dogs.

What do I need to bring?
The weather CAN become extreme in this part of the world. Holmen Husky Lodge reserves the right to change the itinerary or cancel the tour if the weather conditions appear unsafe.
Dogsledding is by far "the activity" you should try if visiting Northern Norway, and Holmen Husky is the right provider! Enjoyed it so much, loveble huskies and very friendly and knowledgeble guides. Bravo!
We weren't sure what to expect but we wanted to have an inroad into the husky lifestyle and experience. We chose well. Beautifully committed and passionate guides and facilitators made this experience a highlight of our full holiday experience. You get to ride the sleigh in train formation, we did a night and morning run and enjoyed both for different reasons. Do the night one first and marvel at where you were the next time.
