When the temperatures fall, before the snow does, we take our guests out in dog carts instead of sleds. After all, mushers train their dogs in more ways than with the sled. The carts are like dog sleds with wheels and bike handles. They offer just as much fun and might even be easier to drive. The ride takes you through the Arctic countryside as Autumn turns to Winter in a splendid display of colours across the varied scenery. From the Arctic forest to the river banks of the Alta River, it’s the perfect activity for this time of the year.

Huskies are polar dogs and it is not safe for them to run when the weather is too warm. We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel tours if the temperatures make it not suitable for our dogs to run.. The weather CAN become extreme in this part of the world. Holmen Husky Lodge reserves the right to change the itinerary or cancel the tour if the weather conditions appear unsafe.
Dogsledding is by far "the activity" you should try if visiting Northern Norway, and Holmen Husky is the right provider! Enjoyed it so much, loveble huskies and very friendly and knowledgeble guides. Bravo!
We weren't sure what to expect but we wanted to have an inroad into the husky lifestyle and experience. We chose well. Beautifully committed and passionate guides and facilitators made this experience a highlight of our full holiday experience. You get to ride the sleigh in train formation, we did a night and morning run and enjoyed both for different reasons. Do the night one first and marvel at where you were the next time.
